Case study #1
Meet Teddy, a very pleasant, outgoing and intelligent 12-year-old boy. At one time Teddy was quite active in school and sports. Now, due to a rare ailment called Hirschsprung's disease, Teddy is withdrawing from life. He is embarrassed to go to school and will no longer participate in sports. Teddy grows more and more depressed every day. It is only a matter of time before he refuses to leave his house for anything. A person born with Hirschsprung’s disease has no nerve endings in his lower intestines. This means that Teddy has absolutely no sensation of when he has to use the bathroom. As you can imagine this disease has to be mentally and emotionally devastating to an adolescent.
Now meet Janet Decker, clinical Hypnotherapist. One day the phone in Janet's office rings. She answers it and hears a pleasant, yet almost desperate, female voice on the other end. This is the voice of Teddy's mother, Ann. She would like to know if there is anything hypnosis could do for her son's self-esteem. She had heard Janet being interviewed on a radio talk show and thought perhaps hypnosis could help where conventional psychotherapy hadn't. Ann was running out of ideas to help her son. Janet tells her that indeed hypnosis was a viable option for helping Teddy to establish his self-esteem. But, Janet tells Ann; “maybe we can go a step or two further. Perhaps with the use of hypnosis I could create an internal clock for Teddy. This way he will know that every day, at the same time, he can visit the bathroom successfully. The result being Teddy can resume a very normal life. No more accidents, no more embarrassments, no more feelings of shame.” Long story short… this wonderful result was accomplished with ease, and even greater things were accomplished. So much so that you would be amazed at the ending. Miracles do happen! Teddy is now 22 years old.
My name is Janet Decker and I am a certified clinical Hypnotherapist. I have been involved in meditation and hypnotherapy both as a practitioner and a teacher for nearly 20 years. I’ve been blessed with the gift of a pleasant, soothing voice and the ability to be very creative when it comes to talking to the subconscious mind. Teddy was just one of many wonderful clients I have had the opportunity to work with over the years. The following is just a sampling of other interesting and life changing stories I’ve been blessed to be a part of.
Case study #2
Tim is a young man with aspirations of playing professional baseball. Tim however has developed a chronic case of tendonitis in his pitching arm. All medical remedies have been exhausted except for surgery. Surgery as you must know is as invasive a procedure as you can get and carries with it no guarantees. The doctors say Tim will most likely not have a career in baseball. I was able to help Tim mentally heal his tendonitis. No surgery was ever needed and Tim was able to discontinue the medication he was taking, thereby eliminating the terrible side effects. Tim was now free to pursue professional ball if he so desired.

Both Arlene and Donna suffered from an extremely painful condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome formerly known as (RSD) - Reflex sympathetic dystrophy. There is no good medical fix for this one. Not even pain medication relieved their discomfort. These two ladies are now pain free. Both Donna and Arlene learned the art of self-hypnosis for pain relief. See www.WebMD.com “Glossary of Terms” for a complete description of this very debilitating condition.
Case studies #5 & 6
This story involves 2 women in 2 unrelated cases. Each of these women took part in two totally different workshops about 4 years apart. They each experienced, for the first time in years, tears…yes tears. Their tear ducts did not work. Every medical treatment had been tried with no results. These may be the truest miracles of all because the tear ducts started functioning just from taking part in a group hypnotic relaxation session that I performed. I had no clue in either case that these ladies had any sort of medical malady at all. Please keep in mind that this was a random selection of people who gathered for a group hypnotic relaxation session and no individual was singled out for healing.
Case study #7
Brenda, a very active, energetic and outgoing woman who enjoyed seeing and experiencing new places, was afraid to drive on Interstates. This phobia cropped up out of nowhere about 5 years prior to coming to my office. Brenda had tried anti-anxiety medications and psychotherapy. They were of absolutely no help to her. Finally, when her style had been cramped for far too long and she could take it no more, Brenda called a hypnotherapist. As it turned out a friend had seen a segment on TV where several different people had been hypnotized for various phobias and all of them cured. Her friend urged her to give hypnosis a try. Brenda decided she had wasted too many precious years and missed too many new and most likely wonderful experiences. She was ready, so it seemed, to try anything, “Besides, what do I have to loose?” she commented on her first visit to my office. Three hypnosis sessions later she was “on the road again” and loving life.
Case study #8
Phil is 60 years young and has been in sales all his working life. He has been driving for 43 years. After all these years of driving Phil finds that he is suddenly afraid of 2 lane roads. Now this is just the opposite of Brenda in the Case Study #8. Brenda was afraid of Interstate driving but was quite comfortable on 2 lane roads. Phil was particularly afraid of crossing bridges on 2 lane roads especially if a truck happened to be crossing the bridge headed in the opposite direction. Phil’s problem was also cleared up in three visits.
Case study #9
Mindy was pregnant with her first child. She was very happy and very, very afraid. All of her life she had been terrified of doctors and needles. The very thought of blood made her woozy. How on earth was she to go through childbirth? And once surviving that, there lay in her future a child who would no doubt receive various cuts and bruises while growing up. How could she possibly manage to treat so much as a simple abrasion should her child receive one? These were all very real and very legitimate concerns for this young woman. This case required several approaches. First, I needed to allay Mindy’s fear of doctor’s, needles and blood and second, I felt it necessary for Mindy to learn self-hypnosis. She would need this skill to help her achieve a painless, or nearly painless and comfortable birthing process. Mindy, with the help of hypnosis completely overcame her fears of doctors, needles and blood. And having effectively learned the art of self-hypnosis, she and her husband experienced a very exciting and wonderful birthing experience. Mindy is now pregnant with her third child.
Case study #10
Angela was a heroin addict for 7 years. Her addiction had grown into a $100.00 a day habit. She had huge, open wounds on both forearms and a raging staph infection in these wounds. Along with that she had osteomyelitis (infection in the bone) in both forearms as well. Angela is 5’10” tall and at that time weighed 98 lbs. This was without a doubt my toughest case in more ways than one, for Angela is my daughter. She came home to me from California in this heart breaking state of sickness and disease. What was it that sustained me through the most gut wrenching, soul twisting, faith shaking healing ordeal of my life…? I believe it was the knowledge/belief that this was Angela’s experience to have and it was my duty and my honor to work through it with her. The out come of this story is nothing short of miraculous. Angela has been drug free since March, 2000 and she is as healthy as a horse. She has been changed for the better by her experience and is now carrying the torch for others suffering from the same miserable affliction. I will never know for sure but perhaps it was to this end that I was brought into the healing profession of hypnosis therapy.
"Your mind is incredibly powerful! Never underestimate yourself or your capabilities. Desire along with persistence, expectation, and belief are the keys to accomplishment!"
